It goes without saying that your dog will need basic items such as one or more collars and leashes. He should also have his own food dish and water bowl. Dog food dishes must be cleaned after every use and the water container should be emptied and cleaned at least once a day.

There are a number of other thing you should consider for the well being, grooming and maintenance of your dog. A good brush is a necessity even for short-hair dogs. If you have a long haired dog or one that has a dense undercoat, consider getting a de-shedding tool as advertised at the end of this text.

Unless you regularly take your dog to be groomed, you will need at the very least a good pair of nail clippers, combs, brushes and dog shampoo.

Your dog should have his own emergency medical kit including a thermometer, ointments for small injuries or skin rashes. The kit should also contain products your vet may have subscribed or suggested for allergies, ear and eye care. Pay special attention to his ears to be sure they are clean.

Don't forget your dog may occasionally need a tonic for diarrhea or constipation. Have these remedies on hand plus any other items your dog may need in the event of small injuries you can take care of at home.
